As the number of cases is increasing worldwide and in Cuba, its management, control, and prevention continue to be a challenge. An observational, descriptive, longitudinal, and retrospective study was conducted in Villa Clara, Cuba, during 2020 and 2021, with the aim of characterizing dengue in Villa Clara during the period 2020-2021. The study population included all suspected cases of dengue from 2020 to 2021, according to the data contained in the computerized file of the Department of Statistics. Document analysis and descriptive statistics were used as methods, and risk stratification was also performed. In 2021, the highest rate of suspected dengue cases was observed, with the 19-24 and 10-14 age groups having the highest incidence for both sexes. Surveillance increased by 40.7%, as did reactivity in all municipalities. In 2020, 38.9% of reactive immunoglobulin M (IgM) tests were confirmed with immunoglobulin G (IgG). The municipalities of Placetas and Caibarién were located in the high-risk stratum. It is concluded that through stratification of entomoepidemiological risk, it is possible to identify higher-risk localities, which makes control strategies much more effective, provided that interventions are implemented simultaneously in localities that, due to their composition, can generate more cases and function as disseminating localities.

El Dengue enfermedad viral que, a nivel mundial, está considerada como una arbovirosis. Existiendo incremento del número de casos en el mundo y en Cuba, por lo que continúa siendo un reto su manejo, control y prevención. Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, longitudinal y retrospectivo en Villa Clara, Cuba durante 2020 y 2021, con el objetivo de caracterizar el dengue en Villa Clara durante el periodo 2020 – 2021. La población a estudiar incluyó la totalidad de casos sospechosos de dengue del año 2020 al 2021, según los datos contenidos en el archivo informatizado del Departamento de Estadística. Se emplearon como métodos el análisis de documentos, y la estadística descriptiva, realizándose además la estratificación del riesgo. En el año 2021 se presentó la mayor tasa de casos sospechosos de dengue, los grupos de 19-24 y de 10-14 años fueron los de mayor incidencia para ambos sexos. La vigilancia incrementó en un 40,7%, igualmente la reactividad en todos los municipios. En el 2020 se confirman con Inmunoglobulina G (IgG) el 38,9% de las Inmunoglobulinas M (IgM) reactivas. Los municipios de Placetas y Caibarién fueron los que se ubicaron en el estrato de alto riesgo. Se concluye, que mediante la estratificación del riesgo entomoepidemiológico es posible identificar localidades de mayor riesgo, lo que posibilita que, las estrategias de control puedan ser mucho más eficaces, siempre y cuando, las intervenciones se implementen de manera simultánea en las localidades, que por su composición pueden generar más casos y funcionar como localidades diseminadoras.
