This paper analyzes the process of filmic thematization present in the movie Neighboring Sounds (2012) by the Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho. The objective was to identify the different elements of the mise-en-scène and the narrative features that continuously express the thematic meanings of territoriality and memory, establishing them as central axes in the construction of the story’s characters. Following a qualitative approach, the study incorporates textual analysis as it´s primary methodology to pinpoint the main formal elements and semantic associations of audiovisual language. It is concluded that the movie employs a series of narrative strategies and specific aesthetic elements to associate the presence of certain characters with different spaces and temporalities of the diegesis, marking a semantic relationship between them. Thus, the film turns spatiality and the past into the core elements to understand the characters in the story, associating itself thematically with one of the current trends in Latin American cinema such as the study of memory. |

El objetivo fue identificar los distintos elementos de la puesta en escena y de la narrativa que manifiestan continuamente los sentidos asociados al territorio y a la memoria para establecerlos como ejes centrales en la construcción de los personajes del relato en la película. El enfoque fue cualitativo y se empleó el análisis textual como principal metodología de estudio para señalar los principales elementos del lenguaje audiovisual y sus asociaciones semánticas. Se concluye que la película utiliza el montaje y la puesta en escena para asociar la presencia de ciertos personajes con los diferentes espacios y temporalidades de la diégesis, y marcar una relación semántica entre los unos y los otros. De este modo, el filme convierte el espacio territorial y la memoria en elementos de vital importancia para entender a los personajes, lo que se asocia temáticamente con una de las tendencias actuales del cine latinoamericano como lo es el estudio de la memoria.Este artigo analisa o processo de tematização cinematográfica presente no filme O som ao redor (2012) do diretor brasileiro Kleber Mendonça Filho. O objetivo foi identificar os diferentes elementos da mise-en-scène e as características narrativas que expressam continuamente os significados temáticos de territorialidade e memória, estabelecendo-os como eixos centrais na construção dos personagens da história. Seguindo uma abordagem qualitativa, o estudo incorpora a análise textual como sua principal metodologia para identificar os principais elementos formais e associações semânticas da linguagem audiovisual. Conclui-se que o filme emprega uma série de estratégias narrativas e elementos estéticos específicos para associar a presença de certos personagens com diferentes espaços e temporalidades da diegese, marcando uma relação semântica entre eles. Assim, o filme transforma a espacialidade e o passado nos elementos centrais para entender os personagens na história, associando-se tematicamente a uma das tendências atuais no cinema latino-americano.Universidad de Lima.
