Sumario:Teacher training is a fundamental pillar for ensuring educational quality. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the teaching competencies perceived by students of the Basic Education program at a public Ecuadorian university. Using a quantitative-descriptive approach, a questionnaire was administered to a non-probability sample of 34 students. The results showed a predominance of neutral ratings (45%-58.82%) across the four dimensions evaluated: theoretical-pedagogical knowledge, didactic planning, assessment, and classroom adaptation. The greatest uncertainties were found in the creation of innovative materials (55.88% neutral) and the design of assessment instruments (50% neutral), while teacher reflection (41.18% agreement) and formative feedback (38.24% agreement) showed moderate perceptions. It is concluded that training programs need to be reformulated with practical approaches, didactic innovation, and attention to diversity in the classroom.
