Except for the work of Salazar Bondy and David Sobrevilla, who sought to provide global and far-reaching visions, most of the research work on intellectuals can be divided into two large groups.La reciente aparición del libro de Osmar Gonzales, Los sanchos fracasados, ha motivado estas líneas. No se trata de una reseña del libro citado, sino, más bien, de reflexiones motivadoras por su lectura y que de esta manera encuentran un interlocutor válido para una necesaria discusión sobre el estudio de los intelectuales.
