Moreover, its scholars reproduced what was prescribed by French medicine. It was understood as a neurological disease, of elusive origin, and with diverse manifestations. Regarding the treatments applied, these ranged from sedatives and purges to electrotherapy and, incidentally, hypnosis.Este artículo hace un seguimiento de la documentación peruana de finales del siglo XIX sobre la histeria. Este recuento comprende obras literarias, tesis y revistas médicas. Pese a que la histeria fue el diagnóstico más frecuente al admitir pacientes en el Manicomio de Lima, las publicaciones de la época no le prestaron una atención especial. Es más, sus estudiosos reprodujeron lo prescrito por la medicina francesa. Se le entendió como enfermedad neurológica, de origen esquivo, y de manifestaciones diversas.
