It is known that the grazing area extends to other departments, but information is still lacking. There are likely to be variations with what is described and the grazing of Ayacucho, Apurímac, Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna, Lima, Cerro de Pasco.Intentamos realizar un resumen de las sociedades de pastores de alpacas de la puna andina, mostrando aspectos caracter´´ísticos de su cultura y su organización social. El resumen etnográfico que presentamos se ha efectuado, en lo básico, con datos obtenidos por el autor y otras personas dedicadas al estudio de la sociedad y la cultura de los pastores en el sur del Perú, principalmente en los departamentos de Cuzco y Puno. Se conoce que el área de pastoreo se extiende por otros departamentos, pero aún falta información.
