There is practically no country that is deprived of pointing out that the crafts of its territory are a faithful reflection of national essences, and in a certain way this is true; but deep down, beyond a tribute to nationalist ideology, these two realities lack many points of contact outside of state policies. These are pre-national (or, if you prefer, extra-national) realities.El mapa artesanal contemporáneo de América Latina procede de una evolución histórica anclada en factores demográficos, y también de diversas relaciones con la tecnología y el capital. En enfoque por países impuesto por los Estados ha buscado la perspectiva nacional en este problema, pero lo ha logrado muy a medias. Prácticamente no hay país que se prive de señalar que la artesanía de su territorio es un reflejo fiel de esencias nacionales, y en cierto modo esto es cierto; pero en el fondo, más allá de un homenaje a la ideología nacionalista, estas dos realidades carecen de muchos puntos de contacto fuera de las políticas estatales.
