The investigations have preferably considered the situation of the indigenous population in rural areas, while the indigenous people who populated urban centers have so far received very little study. Only in the last decade have some articles been published that address this interesting problem.La vida de los indígenas en el Virreinato del Perú se asocia habitualmente con temas como la disolución de la población autóctona, el trabajo forzado en las minas o la miseria que resultó del sistema de encomiendas, para citar algunos ejemplos. Las investigaciones han considerado preferentemente la situación de la población indígena en zonas rurales, mientras que los indígenas que poblaron centros urbanos han sido hasta ahora muy poco estudiados.
