Descripción
Sumario:Objectives: To describe the frequency and characteristics of tuberculosis, as well as its association with HIV, in the districts of North Lima between the years 2013 to 2021. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. The database of the SIGTB web platform of the Peruvian Ministry of Health was used, from 2013 to 2021. Results: A total of 22224 cases of tuberculosis (TB) were analyzed. The median age of the subjects studied was 30 years (Q3=47, Q1=21, IQR=26). Of the sample, 62.6% (n=13903) were male, 83.1% (n=18476) had pulmonary TB, 56.6% (n=12571) were smear positive, and 86.9% (n=19304) were considered sensitive TB. HIV coinfection was present in 6.4% (n=1424), and most of those admitted to the program were new cases. HIV-reactive cases occurred mainly in the 30-49 age group, in males, in cases of pulmonary tuberculosis, and in smear-negative subjects (p<0.001). Conclusions: In the districts of northern Lima, eight out of 10 cases of tuberculosis had pulmonary involvement; most were new cases, smear-positive and sensitive to treatment. TB-HIV coinfection was significantly associated with age 30-49 years, male sex and negative smear test. Prevention, diagnosis and early treatment strategies should be strengthened in all health facilities. Keywords: Tuberculosis; HIV Infections; Peru (Source: MeSH, NLM).
