The instrument showed high reliability, with a Cronbach’s Alpha of .907, and enabled exploration of variables related to sociodemographic profile, travel preferences, and perceptions of the destination. The results reveal that the average tourist is young, seeks affordable experiences, prioritizes beaches and gastronomy, and shows willingness to recommend and return to the destination. However, limitations were identified in infrastructure, safety, and the diversification of cultural and sports offerings. It is concluded that responsible tourism in Bahía de Caráquez requires sustainable, segmented strategies that address consumer expectations and benefit the local community, in line with global tourism trends.El presente estudio analizó las tendencias del comportamiento del consumidor en relación con el desarrollo responsable del destino turístico de Bahía de Caráquez, con el propósito de identificar factores que inciden en la sostenibilidad y la competitividad del sector. Se aplicó una encuesta estructurada a 120 turistas nacionales durante el feriado del 9 de octubre de 2024, mediante un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. El instrumento mostró alta fiabilidad, con un alfa de Cronbach de .907, y permitió explorar variables relacionadas con el perfil sociodemográfico, las preferencias de viaje y las percepciones del destino. Los resultados evidenciaron que el turista promedio es joven y busca experiencias accesibles; además, prioriza las playas y la gastronomía, y muestra disposición para recomendar y regresar al destino. Sin embargo, se identificaron limitaciones asociadas a la infraestructura, la seguridad y la diversificación de la oferta cultural y deportiva.
