responsible development of the Bahía de Caráquez tourist destination, aiming to identify factors that influence the sector’s sustainability and competitiveness. A structured survey was applied to 120 national tourists during the October 9th, 2024 holiday, using a non-probabilistic convenience sampling method. The instrument showed high reliability, with a Cronbach’s Alpha of .907, and enabled exploration of variables related to sociodemographic profile, travel preferences, and perceptions of the destination. The results reveal that the average tourist is young, seeks affordable experiences, prioritizes beaches and gastronomy, and shows willingness to recommend and return to the destination. However, limitations were identified in infrastructure, safety, and the diversification of cultural and sports offerings. It is concluded that responsible tourism in Bahía de Caráquez requires sustainable, segmented strategies that address consumer expectations and benefit the local community, in line with global tourism trends.
