The differences between the means of both groups have statistical significance. Accepting the possibility of unspecified pigments can distort these determinations in the group of high, also it raises the possibility that higher values of this group are actually translation of chronic stress by chronic hypoxia.Se realiza la determinación plasmática en condiciones basales de los 17-hidroxicorticoides libres en 39 sujetos del nivel del mar (Lima) y en 30 sujetos en hipoxia crónica (Morococha 4,540 mts.).  En el grupo del nivel del mar la Media ± D. S. fue de 13.7 ± 4 .09 ug% con valores extremos de 6.8 ug% y 23.2 ug%. En el grupo de la altura la Media ± D.S. fue de 18.7 ± 7.93 ug% con valores extremos de 5.1 y 33.8%. Las diferencias entre las medias de ambos grupos tienen significado estadístico.
