Therefore, the importance of reflecting on the management of menopause and menopause, especially after the events with the Women's Health Initiative (WHI). This paper reviews the events immediately preceding and following the WHI hormonal management in menopausal women or when, in July 2002, JAMA published the findings that had forced researchers to make the determination that it is known to all menopáusicas- including our patients. The author makes a brief reflection on the pros and cons of hormone therapy at menopause, who try and therapeutic possibilities for the symptoms associated with this time of life.En el inicio del año 2003, el promedio de vida alcanza alrededor de 70 años en América Latina y llega a los 80 años en países industrializados, como Japón, el porcentaje de gente mayor de 60 años para el año 2000 fue en el Perú 7,2%, para el año 2025 se calcula el porcentaje en 12,6% y para el año 2050 se triplicará a 22,4%. Por ello, la importancia de reflexionar sobre el manejo del climaterio y la menopausia, especialmente después de los acontecimientos ocurridos con el Women's Health Initiative (WHI). El presente trabajo revisa los acontecimientos inmediatamente previos y los que siguieron al WHI con el manejo hormonal en mujeres menopáusicas o cuando, en julio del año 2002, JAMA publicaba los hallazgos que habían obligado a los investigadores a tomar la determinación que es de conocimiento de todos -incluyendo de nuestras pacientes menopáusicas-.
