Perinatal adversities in maternal anemia include premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor and preeclampsia; and in the newborn, low birth weight, perinatal asphyxia and hyaline membrane syndrome. Neurodevelopmental alterations occur in early childhood, and the mother is susceptible to chronic diseases.Uno de los aspectos esenciales en el manejo adecuado del control prenatal es la identificación de la anemia en la gestante. Se conoce las potenciales consecuencias de obviar la condición de anemia. Si se maneja dicha condición desde una perspectiva integral, los resultados adversos perinatales pueden ser reconocidos tempranamente y evitados. Estos incluyen la rotura prematura de membranas, el parto prematuro y la preeclampsia. Y en el recién nacido, el peso bajo al nacer, la asfixia perinatal y el síndrome de membrana hialina.
