Incluso la denominación de hipertensión inducida por el embarazo -utilizada en la última década- no se ajusta a las modificaciones fisiopatológicas que ocurren en la enfermedad. Así, hoy conocemos que la hipertensión es un signo importante, consecuencia de la enfermedad y no la causa, y que aparece posiblemente para compensar la disminución del flujo sanguíneo que llega al feto1.
