Descripción
Sumario:This study examines the emergence of private security military companies within transnational criminal groups in Colombia and their relationship with organized crime. Through a documentary review, common characteristics of these illegal security companies and their use by these groups were identified to legitimize their criminal activities and obtain economic benefits. These groups were found to use violence and intimidation to consolidate their power and extend their control over certain territories. The regulation and control of the private security sector in Colombia and other countries that suffer the effects of transnational crime are essential to guarantee the safety of the population and combat the penetration of these criminal groups. In recent years, transnational crime has been on the rise, as has the use of private security companies to carry out illegal activities. This situation has led to increasing infiltration of private military security companies by transnational crime groups. This article will examine the way in which this infiltration has been carried out, as well as the risks and problems that could be triggered by it. The prevention and control mechanisms necessary to minimize the risks and problems that this infiltration entails will be discussed. Finally, some recommendations will be made to effectively address the problems of infiltration of military private security companies by groups.
