This study examines the emergence of private security military companies within transnational criminal groups in Colombia and their relationship with organized crime. Through a documentary review, common characteristics of these illegal security companies and their use by these groups were identified to legitimize their criminal activities and obtain economic benefits. These groups were found to use violence and intimidation to consolidate their power and extend their control over certain territories. The regulation and control of the private security sector in Colombia and other countries that suffer the effects of transnational crime are essential to guarantee the safety of the population and combat the penetration of these criminal groups.
