This article discusses the right to political participation in international treaties and decisions of protection bodies. The author notes that while the binding nature of these agreements may vary, international law establishes minimum standards that must be respected regarding political participation. In this context, international protection bodies, such as the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the Human Rights Committee, and the European Court of Human Rights, have established interpretation criteria not only for judicial operators but also for citizens who claim violations of this right. However, it is important to note that international law presents challenges, such as normative uncertainty and the politicization of dispute resolution. Although progress has been made in guaranteeing political participation, it remains insufficient and must continue to be improved.
