Descripción
Sumario:Although the number of academic institutions producing forestry engineers has grown from 7 in the 1970s to over 19 in 2024, and the number of these registered professionals now exceeds five thousand, the forest education paradigm has not changed significantly. It continues to be based on the extraction of timber from the Amazonian natural forests, revealing a growing gap with the reality of the sector, whose future must prioritize forest plantations, ecosystem restauration, biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation as well as generation of ecosystem services. Options to improve and adapt forest education to present demands and opportunities are discussed and proposed.
