In methodological terms, a quasi-experiment was carried out with students of the 4th semester of Accounting Sciences of a Federal Institution of Higher Education. The results showed that the use of the seminar, regarding the levels "remember, apply and analyze", was able to influence the cognitive development of students.It is concluded that the use of the seminar technique, as a complementary instrument, can influence the level of cognitive development achieved by accounting students.Este estudio busca realizar un análisis sobre el uso de la técnica de seminario, una técnica activa, como herramienta de complementación al método tradicional, influye en el nivel de desarrollo cognitivo del alumnado. En términos metodológicos, se realizó un cuasi experimento con estudiantes del cuarto semestre de Ciencias Contables de una institución federal de educación superior. Los resultados mostraron que el uso del seminario, con respecto a los niveles "recordar, aplicar y analizar", fue capaz de influir en el desarrollo cognitivo. Se concluye que el uso de la técnica del seminario, como instrumento complementario, puede influir en el nivel de desarrollo cognitivo alcanzado por el alumnado de contabilidad.Este estudo busca analisar se o uso da técnica do seminário, uma técnica ativa, como instrumento complementar a aula expositiva e resolução de exercício, influencia no nível de desenvolvimento cognitivo de estudantes de contabilidade. Em termos metodológicos realizou-se um quase experimento com estudantes do 4º semestre de Ciências Contábeis de uma Instituição Federal de Ensino Superior.Os resultados encontrados evidenciaram que o uso do seminário, quanto aos níveis “lembrar, aplicar e analisar”, foi capaz de influenciar no desenvolvimento cognitivo.
