This generates knowledge through market research, competitor analysis, and technological trend identification, among others, which enables companies to make informed decisions. Technology watch is one of the five functions that comprise the management model of the Mexican National Technology and Innovation Award, which also includes planning, enablement, protection, and implementation.The objective of this research is to analyze the technology watch activities and practices carried out by food SMEs in the region, and based on this, to understand the impact of technology watch on these companies. This study conducted direct research through surveys applied to food SMEs and desk research on the topic. The research concludes that technology watch has contributed to solving market needs, identifying technological development projects, and improving strategic and technological planning in this type of company. Las pequen?as y medianas empresas (pymes) de la industria alimentaria de la zona metropolitana del valle de Me?xico (ZMVM) utilizan la vigilancia tecnolo?gica para la recopilacio?n y ana?lisis sistema?tico de informacio?n de diversas fuentes, con lo que generan conocimiento a trave?s de estudios de mercado, competencia y tendencias tecnolo?gicas, entre otros, que sirve a las empresas para tomar decisiones de manera informada. La vigilancia tecnolo?gica es una de las cinco funciones que componen el modelo de gestio?n del Premio Nacional de Tecnologi?a e Innovacio?n de Me?xico (PNTi), el cual tambie?n suma a la planeacio?n, habilitacio?n, proteccio?n e implantacio?n.El objetivo de la presente investigacio?n es analizar las actividades y pra?cticas de vigilancia tecnolo?gica que realizan las pymes alimentarias de la regio?n y, con base en ello, conocer el impacto de la vigilancia en estas empresas. El trabajo se llevo? a cabo haciendo investigacio?n directa, con la aplicacio?n de encuestas a pymes alimentarias, e investigacio?n de gabinete sobre el tema de estudio. En el trabajo se concluye que la vigilancia tecnolo?gica contribuyo? a solucionar necesidades del mercado, a identificar proyectos de desarrollo tecnolo?gico y a mejorar la planificacio?n estrate?gica y tecnolo?gica en este tipo de empresas.
