Additionally, it will explore the nexus between these narratives and the propaganda campaign orchestrated by the Viceroy of Peru in its favor. As will be demonstrated, the presence of European adversaries in America not only intensified the intricate political landscape but also added complexity to the economic relations between Spain and its viceroyalties.En 1594, se imprimió en Lima el primer texto de carácter noticioso. La “Relación de lo sucedido desde diez y siete de mayo” narraba el triunfo de una armada enviada por el virrey García Hurtado de Mendoza y la captura del pirata inglés Richard Hawkins. En este artículo se analizarán las motivaciones que estuvieron detrás de la premura por difundir esta noticia y otros documentos relativos al episodio, así como su relación con la campaña propagandística que emprendió a su favor el entonces virrey del Perú.
