Second, that there was a disputeof an education beyond the nationalities in conflict as an articulatingaxis. Since there was a clear involvement of local schools to theirdesignated Andean spaces, I suggest using the idea of modernity thatcould support this proposal.Este trabajo se propone explicar y analizar cómo se manifiestacierta contradicción en las identidades sociales en la población dela sierra andina de Arica durante el proceso de implementación dela educación post Guerra del Pacífico. Ello, frente a las políticas deincorporación de la educación chilena en estos territorios al rememorarseresiduos de una ciudadanía peruana en el actuar cotidianode esta población andina (hoy norte de Chile).Al caracterizar este proceso de mixturas sociopolíticas y socioculturales,pretendo analizar dos puntos: primero, que más allá delproceso en sí, existe desde antes de la ocupación chilena una idea demodernidad implementada por una ideología liberal que impregnabatoda la sociedad decimonónica peruana. En segundo lugar, que existíaentonces la disputa por educarse más allá de las nacionalidades enconflicto como eje articulador.
