This study examines the views of psychology students in Arequipa city, concerning to the most representative psychologists of the town, Peruvian, Latin American, and world wide. Also, it is discussed the views with regard to the future of psychology; in both cases an ad hoc survey was used and applied to 84 psychology students from four universities in Arequipa. It is concluded that students identified the most important psychologists through three consecutive criteria: (1) their academic production, (2) their teaching role, and (3) their presence in the news media. In addition, it was possible to notice that in each university, student’s preferences reflect the mainstream that is cultivated in every study house. With respect to psychology in the future, greater objectivity and scientific rigor, emphasizing technology and neuroscience issues, and areas such as organizational psychology characterize it. |

En ambos caso se usó una encuesta ad hoc que se aplicó a 84 estudiantes de psicología de cuatro universidades de Arequipa. Se concluye que los estudiantes identifican a los psicólogos más importantes siguiendo tres criterios sucesivos: (1) su producción académica, (2) su rol docente y (3) su presencia en los medios informativos. Además, se pudo notar que en cada universidad las preferencias de los estudiantes reflejan la corriente dominante que se cultiva en cada casa de estudios. En lo que concierne a la psicología en el futuro, las respuestas señalan mayor objetividad y rigor científico, enfatizando en temas de tecnología y neurociencias; también, en áreas como la psicología organizacional.As opiniões dos estudantes de psicologia da cidade de Arequipa são analisadas com relação aos psicólogos mais representativos da localidade, Peru, América Latina e o mundo; também, suas opiniões sobre o futuro da psicologia são analisadas. Em ambos os casos, uma pesquisa ad hoc foi aplicada a 84 estudantes de psicologia de quatro universidades em Arequipa. Conclui-se que os estudantes identificam os psicólogos mais importantes seguindo três critérios sucessivos: (1) sua produção acadêmica, (2) seu papel docente e (3) sua presença nos meios de comunicação. Além disso, notou-se que em cada universidade as preferências dos alunos refletem o mainstream que é cultivado em cada casa de estudos.
