Sumario:Introduction. Cesarean section is one of the most predominant surgical procedures worldwide. In Peru, national datashows that our rates fluctuate around 36%, and a prevalent factor in the indication for cesarean delivery is previous cesarean section. Objective. To determine the prevalence of previous cesarean section as an indication for cesarean deliveryin a Peruvian hospital during the period from January to December 2022. Materials and Methods. A descriptive studywas carried out based on the information from the medical records of pregnant women with an indication for cesarean delivery attended in a hospital. From a population of 6100 pregnant women attended in 2022, a total of 236 medical recordsof patients who underwent cesarean section with a history of cesarean section were obtained. Sociodemographic andclinical information was extracted. Results. It was found that the prevalence of previous cesarean section as an indicationfor cesarean delivery was 21.6%. The average age of the patients attended was 32.5 years, the most prevalent level ofeducation was complete secondary education with 57.6%, 75.4% of patients were cohabiting, and finally, the prevalentnumber of pregnancies that these patients had was two. Conclusions. Approximately one-fifth of the patients with anindication for cesarean delivery had the indication due to previous cesarean section.
