Among the indications for performing the procedure are primary and secondary alterations related to breasts shape and volume. During the initial assessment, emphasis should be placed in the anamnesis and physical examination, allowing to define target sizing and realistic expectations to prospectively determine the possible postoperative satisfaction rates. There are several methods used to select the appropriate implants that have become more accurate with time and with the use of technology. Although there are multiple materials developed, to this moment silicone implants continue to be the ones most used worldwide with low complication rates depending on each patient and on the technique used. It is considered as one of the aesthetic reconstructive surgeries with the highest degree of acceptance among the general population who undergo this type of procedures.La cirugía de aumento mamario es uno de los procedimientos más realizados a nivel mundial de índole estético reconstructivo. Dentro de las indicaciones para la realización del procedimiento se encuentran alteraciones primarias o secundarias asociadas a la forma y volumen mamario. En la valoración inicial se debe enfatizar en la anamnesis y un examen físico adecuado permitiendo dimensionar metas y expectativas que permitan prospectivamente determinar el grado posible de conformidad posoperatorio. Existen diversos métodos para la selección del implante que a través del tiempo han permitido la aplicación de tecnología para lograr mayor exactitud. Diversos materiales se han desarrollado, siendo la silicona hasta el momento la más utilizada mundialmente con tasas bajas de complicaciones dependiendo de cada paciente y la técnica usada. Se considera una de las cirugías estéticas reconstructivas con mayor grado de aceptación dentro de la población general que se somete a este tipo de procedimiento.Universidad de San Martín de Porres.
