Objective: to determine the effect of atropine in 0.01% ophthalmic drops combined with optical correction interventions to slow the progression of childhood myopia. Methodology: a systematic review of articles published in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and EBSCOhost up to March 28, 2022, was performed. Meta-analysis was performed with a random-effects model by subgroups of interest. Results: eight studies were selected (six randomized clinical trials, one nonrandomized trial, and one cohort study), including a total of 632 children with low and medium myopia who used orthokeratology or monofocal contact lenses and atropine 0.01% eye drops. The meta-analysis showed results in favor of combined treatment to slow axial elongation by -0.15 mm with a 95% confidence interval (-0.23 to -0.07), high risk of bias, and high heterogeneity (I2=94%). Conclusions: according to the available evidence, atropine in 0.01% eye drops combined with mono-focal lenses or orthokeratology contact lenses could reduce axial elongation in children with low and medium myopia; however, the results are heterogeneous and the risk of bias is high. |

La miopía es la segunda causa de discapacidad visual a nivel mundial y la prevalencia de la miopía infantil aumenta a un ritmo alarmante, por lo que una sola intervención de tratamiento no es suficiente y se deben combinar intervenciones que ralenticen su progresión. Objetivo: determinar el efecto de la atropina en gotas oftálmicas al 0,01% combinada con intervenciones de corrección óptica para ralentizar la progresión de la miopía infantil. Metodología: se realizó una revisión sistemática de artículos publicados en PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, OvidMEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, y EBSCOhost hasta el 28 de marzo del 2022. Se realizó metaanálisis con modelo de efectos aleatorios por subgrupos de interés. Resultados: se seleccionaron 8 estudios (6 ensayos clínicos aleatorizados, 1 ensayo no aleatorizado, y 1 estudio de cohortes), incluyéndose un total de 632 niños con miopía baja y media, que usaron lentes de contacto de ortoqueratología o monofocales y atropina en gotas oftálmicas al 0,01%. El metaanálisis mostro resultados a favor del tratamiento combinado para ralentizar la elongación axial en -0,15 mm con intervalo de confianza de 95% (-0,23 a -0,07), riesgo de sesgo alto y heterogeneidad elevada (I2=94%).
