Through a comparative analysis, we study in chapter xviii of the first part of Don Quixote the presence of two topics (the catalogue of troops and the military harangue) typical of Greco-Roman epic and historiography. This finding is significant, because it is not only a surface reference to classical sources by Cervantes, but both the narrative structure, themes and the figurative roles that appear in the novel are analogous to those we observe in the classical sources. This allows us to complement and to discuss some of the latest works that has been done on the classical tradition in this Cervantes novel.
