La presente investigación tiene por finalidad describir el funcionamiento cognitivo de un grupo de 21 jugadores activos de ajedrez de alto rendimiento. Se emplearon tres clústeres del Psicodiagnóstico de Rorschach que conforman la Tríada cognitiva: el Procesamiento de la información, la Mediación cognitiva y la Ideación, ya que se considera que el ajedrez es un deporte que estimula la cognición. Para realizar un análisis comparativo, se ha apareado a cada jugador de ajedrez con un evaluado con características similares en edad, sexo y grado de instrucción, pero que no juegan ajedrez. Los resultados evidencian diferencias significativas en las variables de localización global y de detalle (W y D), en las respuestas poco convencionales, pasivas y de movimiento humano activo (Xu%, p, Ma) y en la actividad mental que registra experiencias de demanda (SumFM+m) entre ambos grupos. Luego, en relación con las variables sociodemográficas del grupo de estudio, se encontraron diferencias significativas en cuanto al puntaje ELO y al número de torneos jugados en el 2017; además, se hallaron diferencias en la variable Carrera. Al respecto se encuentra que los ajedrecistas presentan un funcionamiento más eficiente a través de respuestas económicas y prácticas, y una adecuada capacidad perceptiva y ajuste, que permiten una reducción de datos precisa. Además, se observa un rol activo en el proceso de toma de decisiones, una adecuada organización de símbolos y conceptos en la producción de juicios, y un pensamiento original, crítico y creativo. |

Además, se observa un rol activo en el proceso de toma de decisiones, una adecuada organización de símbolos y conceptos en la producción de juicios, y un pensamiento original, crítico y creativo.The purpose of this research is to describe the cognitive functioning of a group of 21 highperformance active chess players Three clusters of the Rorschach Psychodiagnostics that make up the Cognitive Triad were used: Information Processing, Cognitive Mediation and Ideation, since chess is considered a sport that stimulates cognition. To carry out a comparative analysis, each chess player has been paired with a person with similar characteristics in terms of age, sex and educational level, but who does not play chess. The results show significant differences in the variables of global location and detail (W and D), in the unconventional, passive and active human movement responses (Xu%, p, Ma) and in the mental activity that registers experiences of demand (SumFM+m) between both groups. Then, in relation to the sociodemographic variables of the study group, significant differences were found in terms of the ELO score, the number of tournaments played in 2017 and in the Career variable. In this regard, it is found that chess players present a more efficient operation through economic and practical answers, and an adequate perceptual capacity and adjustment, which allows an accurate data reduction.
