La muestra estuvo conformada por 385 estudiantes de primero a quinto de secundaria, quienes participaron voluntariamente en esta investigación. Se adaptaron dos escalas de Orientación a la meta, una para el curso de Matemática y otra para el curso de Lenguaje. Asimismo, para determinar el rendimiento académico alcanzado por los estudiantes se emplearon los promedios de las notas en los respectivos cursos. A partir de la aplicación y análisis estadístico correspondiente de los resultados, se encontró que para los cursos de Matemática y Lenguaje existe una relación positiva entre el rendimiento académico y las orientaciones de tarea y de autoensalzamiento del ego, y negativa con la evitación a la orientación. La autofrustración del ego no se asoció al rendimiento académico en ninguno de los cursos.

La autofrustración del ego no se asoció al rendimiento académico en ninguno de los cursos.Based on the Goal Orientation Theory, the objective of this research was to know the relationship between the kind of goal orientation adopted and the academic performance obtained by a group of students from secondary level on single-gender classrooms and mixed classrooms. The sample was conformed of 385 students from first to fifth grade of secondary school, who voluntarily participated in this research. Two Goal Orientation Scales were adapted, one for Mathematics and the other one for Spanish. Besides that, in order to determine the students’ academic performance, the averages in both school subjects were employed. After the application and the statistic analysis of outcomes, it was found that there is a positive relationship between the academic performance and task orientation as well as the self-enhancing ego orientation.
