Resúmenes4 páginas.La ciudad de Abancay (Área urbana del distrito de Abancay) se abastece de agua para consumo humano del sistema de agua potable de la localidad de Abancay, suministrada por 5 fuentes subterráneas y una superficial (Laguna Rontococha), cuya capacidad conjunta es de 150.67 L/s (Emusap Abancay S.A.C., 2014). Dado al incremento desmedido de la población y el crecimiento urbano desordenado, el caudal de producción actual es insuficiente. Una de las formas de abastecimiento de agua potable se realiza a través de una fuente de tipo subterránea (manantial Marcamarca), cuya captación de agua se ubica a 5 km al noreste de la ciudad, en el sector denominado Llanucancha (Figura 2). El manantial Marcamarca tiene un caudal de descarga es de 64.72 L/s (Emusap Abancay, 2014) y se constituye en la principal fuente de abastecimiento de la ciudad. Por otra parte, se ha estimado la población futura de 64,248 habitantes (cuadro 1) en el ámbito de administración de Emusap Abancay S.A.C. para el período 2014 – 2019, la misma que muestra un incremento progresivo de la población y por ende la demanda del consumo de agua.
