Objetivos: se evaluaron las asociaciones concurrentes y posteriores entre la inseguridad alimentaria y los puntajes z de altura para la edad. Métodos: Utilizamos datos de la cohorte más joven de Young Lives compuesta de niños en Etiopía (n = 1757), India (n = 1825), Perú (n = 1844) y Vietnam (n = 1828) reclutados en 2002 (ronda 1) en; 1 año de edad, con la recopilación de datos subsiguiente en 5 años en 2006 (ronda 2) y 8 años en 2009 (ronda 3). Resultados: los niños de hogares con inseguridad alimentaria tuvieron HAZ significativamente más bajos en todos los países a 5 años (Etiopía, 20,33; India, 20.53; Perú, 20.31; y Vietnam, 20.68 HAZ; todos P <0.001), aunque los resultados fueron atenuados después de controlar el potencial factores de confusión (Etiopía, 20.21; India, 20.32; Perú, 20.14; y Vietnam, 20.27 HAZ; P <0.01). 5 años de inseguridad alimentaria predijo la edad 8 y HAZ, pero no añadió poder predictivo más allá de HAZ a la edad de 5 años en Etiopía, India o Perú. Edad 5 y comida la inseguridad predijo la edad 8 y BMI-Z incluso después de controlar por 5 yBMI-Z, aunque las asociaciones no fueron significativas después de la inclusión de variables de confusión adicionales (Etiopía, P = 0.12, India, P = 0.29, Perú, P = 0.16 y Vietnam, P = 0.51).
