Supervisor's behavioral complexity: ineffective in the call center. International Journal of Business Science and Applied Management, 12(1), 29-43.https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12640/3394An ample repertoire of leadership behaviors available to the manager is expected to guarantee his/her effectiveness transcending situations, but research in the call-center context has identified a specific form of effective supervision: people-oriented leadership. The purpose of this paper is to compare the effectiveness of leader behavioral complexity vis-a-vis people-oriented supervision. 268 employees out of 728 of a Peruvian call center filled in an on-line survey that included, among other questionnaires, the Competing Values Framework Managerial Behavior Instrument in reference to their front-line supervisor. The study analyzed the relationships between supervisory leadership and subordinate turnover intention and absenteeism. Behavioral complexity, like people-oriented leadership, predicted subordinate turnover intention but did not predict subordinate absenteeism, which people-oriented leadership did when other leadership orientations (to change, results, processes) were held constant. Our explanations consider that absenteeism is a concrete behavior and turnover intention an abstract attitude. The findings are consistent with the call-center literature, suggest important boundaries to the concept of manager behavioral complexity, and highlight the need for contingency theories of leadership effectiveness.application/pdfInglésengInternational Journal of Business Science & Applied ManagementGBurn:issn:1753-0296https://www.business-and-management.org/download.php?file=2017/12_1--29-43-Leon,Burga-Leon,Morales.pdfinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAttribution 4.0 Internationalhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Leader behavioral complexityPeople-oriented leadershipAbsenteeismCompeting values frameworkComplejidad del comportamiento del líderLiderazgo orientado a las personasAusentismoMarco de valores en competenciahttps://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#5.02.04Supervisor's behavioral complexity: ineffective in the call centerinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtículoreponame:ESAN-Institucionalinstname:Universidad ESANinstacron:ESANhttps://orcid.org/0000-0002-5298-9733Acceso abiertoInternational Journal of Business Science and Applied Management4312912ORIGINALmorales_2017.pdfmorales_2017.pdfTexto completoapplication/pdf364169https://repositorio.esan.edu.pe/bitstreams/008485e7-e26c-4c4c-9c18-88789079165b/downloadb835a844ef0f7d35bdeb19e3e4a0d1a7MD51trueAnonymousREADTHUMBNAILmorales_2017.pdf.jpgmorales_2017.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4270https://repositorio.esan.edu.pe/bitstreams/75ac7a1f-9266-4b3c-8cc3-8a005905a02e/download9d8149e21caa5b974d182d9e027fbeffMD55falseAnonymousREADTEXTmorales_2017.pdf.txtmorales_2017.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain57992https://repositorio.esan.edu.pe/bitstreams/5fcbcbf1-ab9c-4a51-9f74-9826a8d700db/download1c35e816b408d4dc15d609547fd83103MD54falseAnonymousREAD20.500.12640/3394oai:repositorio.esan.edu.pe:20.500.12640/33942024-11-25 19:41:27.956https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessopen.accesshttps://repositorio.esan.edu.peRepositorio Institucional ESANrepositorio@esan.edu.pe |
