HRQMs work was possible thanks to grant CONCYTEC, Project 149-2015-FONDECYT-DE.The taxonomically difficult genus Polylepis (Rosaceae) contains several problematic species complexes, including one around P. sericea. We here reevaluate species boundaries in this complex based on morphological characters and climatic niches. We recognize five species within the P. sericea complex, based primarily on leaf characters: P. albicans (northwestern Peru), P. argentea (central Peru) described here, P. canoi (southeastern Peru to central Bolivia), P. ochreata (Ecuador to southernmost Colombia), and P. sericea (Venezuela to central Colombia). We provide full synonymy, diagnostic notes, lists of selected specimens examined, and a key to the species of the complex.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica - ConcytecengAmerican Society of Plant Taxonomists Inc.Systematic Botanyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPolylepis sericeaP. sericea-1https://purl.org/pe-repo/ocde/ford#1.06.10-1Taxonomic Reevaluation of the Polylepis sericea Complex (Rosaceae), with the Description of a New Speciesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlereponame:CONCYTEC-Institucionalinstname:Consejo Nacional de Ciencia Tecnología e Innovacióninstacron:CONCYTEC#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#20.500.12390/910oai:repositorio.concytec.gob.pe:20.500.12390/9102024-05-30 15:23:13.753http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessmetadata only accesshttps://repositorio.concytec.gob.peRepositorio Institucional CONCYTECrepositorio@concytec.gob.pe#PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE##PLACEHOLDER_PARENT_METADATA_VALUE#<Publication xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/1.1/" id="5e3534d6-0471-408e-a1a9-00adad8d2dfb"> <Type xmlns="https://www.openaire.eu/cerif-profile/vocab/COAR_Publication_Types">http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_1843</Type> <Language>eng</Language> <Title>Taxonomic Reevaluation of the Polylepis sericea Complex (Rosaceae), with the Description of a New Species</Title> <PublishedIn> <Publication> <Title>Systematic Botany</Title> </Publication> </PublishedIn> <PublicationDate>2019</PublicationDate> <DOI>https://doi.org/10.1600/036364419X15562052252225</DOI> <SCP-Number>2-s2.0-85066879306</SCP-Number> <Authors> <Author> <DisplayName>Espinoza T.E.B.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02404" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Quispe-Melgar H.R.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02402" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> <Author> <DisplayName>Kessler M.</DisplayName> <Person id="rp02403" /> <Affiliation> <OrgUnit> </OrgUnit> </Affiliation> </Author> </Authors> <Editors> </Editors> <Publishers> <Publisher> <DisplayName>American Society of Plant Taxonomists Inc.</DisplayName> <OrgUnit /> </Publisher> </Publishers> <Keyword>Polylepis sericea</Keyword> <Keyword>P. sericea</Keyword>
The taxonomically difficult genus Polylepis (Rosaceae) contains several problematic species complexes, including one around P. sericea.
