Data on violence against women in Spain are unbearable for an advanced democratic state, which allows inferring that there is a social/sexual reality prior to the social coexistence pact that is discriminatory for women and threatens their fundamental rights. This reality of preexisting subordination to the norms of social coexistencehas been based (and sustained) on the asymmetry of socio/sexual power that pivots in the sex/gender system. Las cifras de la violencia contra las mujeres en España resultan insoportables para un Estado democrático avanzado, lo que permite inferir que existe una realidad socio/sexual previa al pacto de convivencia social que resulta discriminatoria para las mujeres y atentatoria contra sus derechos fundamentales. Dicha realidad de subordinación preexistente a las normas de convivencia social se ha sustentado (y sustenta) sobre la asimetría de poder socio/sexual que pivota en el sistema sexo/género.
