Advances in Doppler velocimetry applications in gynecology

Ultrasound has represented an important tool in the diagnosis of gynecological pathologies. With the addition of Doppler color these possibilities have improved. Doppler color gives us the opportunity to know the vascular pattern of certain pathologies, and through the wave flow spectral analysis we know the velocity and the resistance of certain waves in various diseases. Doppler color and transvaginal ultrasound allow a level of understanding and diagnosis of pelvic physiology and pathology. In this article we review advances in three specific fields: study of the menstrual cycle and infertility; differential diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy; and diagnosis of malignancy in ovarian tumors.
Si bien la ecografía ya representa un avance notable en el diagnostico de patologías ginecológicas, el Doppler color ha incrementado estas posibilidades, ya que en ginecología nos ha permitido conocer el patrón vascular normal, así como el de determinadas patologías, y saber a través del análisis espectral de la onda de velocidad de flujo la velocidad y resistencia de la onda y asociarla con determinados procesos fisiológicos o con patologías determinadas. El Doppler color, junto con el abordaje ecográfico por vía transvaginal, nos ha llevado a un nivel de entendimiento y diagnóstico seguro y óptimo de la fisiología y patología pélvica. En este articulo se revisa los avances en tres campos específicos: el estudio del ciclo menstrual e infertilidad, el diagnostico diferencial del embarazo ectópico, y lugar en el diagnóstico de malignidad de masas ováricas.
