Sumario:To evaluate the results of conservation surgery associated with radiotherapy as primary treatment of stage I and II breast cancer. PLACE: Gynecologic Oncology National Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins EsSalud. DESIGN: Retrospective clinical study observational descriptive. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 110 cases of invasive breast cancer in I and II treated between January 1986 and December 1997. RESULTS clinical stages: Ages ranged mostly between 40 and 59 years. In 59% of cases, the tumor was T1, mainly T1c, with 87% of cases with nodal status NO, number of lymph 0 69% 52% 46% clinical stage I and stage II. Lumpectomy was performed in 90% of cases and in 10% quadrantectomy with satisfactory cosmetic results in 90%. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma was found in 84% and 7% lobular. There was 6/110 recurrence cases (5%). Complications were rare, especially arm edema in 18%. seroma 9% and 36% epidermitis radio. CONCLUSIONS: the favorable results of conservation surgery and radiation therapy for breast stadium I and II, similar to cancer radical mastectomy, being fully justified as a treatment of choice for small carcinomas were observed.
