Chorionic gonadotropin values in normal pregnancy

The excretion of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) has been measured during normal pregnancy by using the hemagglutination technique of Wide and Gemzell. A total of 553 24 hr. urine collections were obtained from 425 pregnant women. The mean values for HCG presented a biphasic curve with a peak of 90.000 i.u. for the weeks 10- 12th., decreasing then gradually to a value of 30.000 and 21.000 i.u. in the 20th. and 30th. week respectively. A comparative study between the quantification of HCG in 24 hr. Urine collections and the morning sample calculated as an aliquot of one liter of urine did not show differences.
La excreción de la gonadotropina coriónica humana (HCG) se ha medido durante el embarazo normal mediante el uso de la técnica de hemaglutinación de ancha y Gemzell. Un total de 553 24 hr. colecciones de orina se obtuvieron de 425 mujeres embarazadas. Los valores medios de HCG presentan una curva bifásica con un pico de 90.000 UI para la semana 10 y 12., disminuyendo luego gradualmente hasta un valor de 30.000 y 21.000 iu en el 20o. y 30a. semanas respectivamente. Un estudio comparativo entre la cuantificación de HCG en 24 horas. Colecciones de orina y la muestra de la mañana calculado como una parte alícuota de un litro de orina no mostraron diferencias.
