Por más que a alguno le pueda parecer original, la cesión del 0.7% del Producto Bruto Interno (PBI) en forma de ayuda al desarrollo del Tercer Mundo no es una propuesta reciente. La Organización para las Naciones Unidas (ONU) lleva mucho tiempo abanderando la causa. Esta iniciativa ha sido, sin embargo, abrazada por distintos sectores sociales en la Unión Europea y todavía está lejos de alcanzar la meta propuesta por Naciones Unidas. Trataremos de analizar las particularidades de una cuestión de la que todo el mundo ha oído hablar, pero pocos conocen la situación real de la ayuda al desarrollo.
As much as it may seem to some, the transfer of 0.7% of GDP in aid to Third World development is not a new proposal. The United Nations Organization has long been championing the cause. This initiative has been, however, embraced by the different social sectors in the European Union and is still far from achieving the goal set by the UN. Try to analyze the characteristics of an issue that everyone has heard of, but few know of the status of development aid.
