The urban density in cities is growing, which could favor land use efficiency, mobility and provides an opportunity for other environmental services; for those reasons is expected the increase of homes in high buildings in the coming decades. On the other hand, the urgency of initiatives for adaptation and mitigation to climate change in the cities has led to questions and rethinking for the built environment, as well as alternative proposals moved away from conventions.Considering the large number of families living in medium and high density multifamily homesin most of the world’s cities, the “resilient balconies” project proposes a change in the designand planning of the balcony space; destined to water, energy and food security to create anopportunity for survival face of the uncertain impacts of climate change on cities.

With the lockdown imposed by Covid-19 pandemic, electricity consumption has increased for many families in Peru, as well electricity tariffs. The objective of this experience was to demonstrate the possibility of photovoltaic installations in apartments even under non-ideal conditions, in addition, to study the electricity consumption integrating gradually efficient appliances and saving habits. The article explains the monitoring of 4 years (2017-2020) in an apartment in Lima, with various photovoltaic systems for partial contribution incorporated in the façade by mean of a patented hanger, to register and compare the evolution of monthly and annual consumption using electricity billing receipts. Finally, the savings in emissions and economic returns have been calculated. The results show a considerable level of savings in electricity and even more during the “new normal”, being an...

The importance of public space as a catalyst for the development of cities, and the idea of university campuses like small cities within cities, are the main premises to start this research. This leads to the concept of university campus public space as a relevant factor for a better functioning of the university, and for the benefit of its students, teachers, and staff. However, like the urban public space, the university public space in many occasions does not have comprehensive planning for the development of all its potentialities. In Peru, the Ricardo Palma University is among the top 10 universities with the largest number of green areas on its campus. However, a comprehensive treatment of the university public space is not enough to maintain the green areas. It must be understood that the university public space also includes circulation spaces as well as living spaces. The sustai...

The public space in the university campus is a relevant factor for a better functioning of this type of infrastructure, in benefit of the university community. However, the university public space often does not have comprehensive planning to develop all its potential. It must be understood that university public space, including its green areas, has spaces such as circulation, meeting and other places produced by the new needs of its new users, which are constantly being renewed. Therefore, this investigation aims to analyze the changes applied in the use of potential university public spaces within the framework of the 21st century. The study is of the basic type, with a qualitative approach, with a comparative methodological analysis. The actions taken at Harvard University, the University of Berkeley and the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Ricardo Palma University w...
