Los ecosistemas más frágiles del mundo se encuentran en las áreas costeras donde las condiciones medioambientales determinan la escasez de elementos florísticos por la alta adaptabilidad que exigen las condiciones medioambientales y particularmente de suelo y clima. Cupisnique ubicado en San Pedro de Lloc, Pacasmayo, La Libertad, Perú, es un área desértica cuya evaluación de la caracterización florística realizada entre febrero y octubre de 2010, permite reportar que la formación vegetal predominante es la representada por Colicondenron scabridum "zapote", seguida por Prosopis patuda "algarrobo", Beautempsia avincennifolia "guayabito de gentil", Capparicordis crotonoides "simulo", Acacia macracantha "espino", y Scutia spicata "peal". El trabajo reporta 58 especies vegetales distribuidas en 50 géneros, 27 familias y 17 órdenes
