In samples of plankton collected from different localities along the Peruvian Andes, we found seven species of Boeckella (gracilis, gracilipes, calcaris, poopoensis, occidentalis, titicacae and palustris) and two of Neoboeckella (kinzeli and loffleri). All species, except Neoboeckella species were found in the Titicaca basin. In addition, B. palustris, B. gracilipes and B. calcaris were found in Moquegua, Apurimac and Pasco (south and central Andes). Boeckella titicacae appears to be restricted to the Titicaca Lake basin. Boeckella poopoensis occurs in saline water bodies with elevated conductivity and was found only at Salinas Lake in Arequipa. Boeckella occidentalis is a widespread species all along the Andes, from South in Puno to North in Cajamarca department and Neoboeckella loffleri is a new record for Peru. All samples are deposited in the Plankton Collection of the Limnology Depa...

Herein, the first record of Lophodinium polylophum from Peru is presented. This fresh water dinoflagellate was identified in plankton samples from the lagoon Picoplancha of Santuario Nacional Pampas del Heath (Madre de Dios) and from a stream in the Puinahua River basin in Loreto.

In this paper we apply biological indices of environmental quality and conservation, based on biological monitoring conducted between 2003 and 2009 in five localities of the Bajo Urubamba River. Communities of plankton, benthos and fishes were studied. The diversity of plankton was 170 species, mainly based on Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta. The benthos included 112 species, mainly larvae and adults of Arthropoda (Insecta). 176 fish species were recorded, represented by 26 families and six orders. The quality of the study area ranged from normal to very good, according to the index %ETP. The conservation index of aquatic environments (IBI) gave the higher values for Miari and Sepahua. The high diversity of the communities studied could be related to the heterogeneity of habitats and greater resources than are observed in the lower part of the study area.

The present paper describes the diversity and state of conservation, determinate by a rapid biological inventory, carried out since October 24 to 30 of 2005, at the Amazonian waterbodies from Northeast of Peru, between 680 and 133 m of altitude, among Tarapoto (San Martin) and Yurimaguas (Loreto). Data and samples were collected in 26 stations. Planckton samples were collected with standard net (40 microns), benthos with Surber net and fishes with small mesh seines. Descriptions of each habitat included coordinates (UTM), and limnological characteristics (pH, temperature, conductivity, oxygen). The richness of species of fishes was of 95, dominated by Characiformes and Siluriformes. Richness of species in phytoplankton was of 74, in zooplankton, 22 species and in benthos of 20 species. The conservation state was determined using the Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) for fishes, and EPT...

Cashibococha lagoon was studied during 2001 year. Three stations were bimonthly sampling. Cashibococha have greenish to brownish colour water, pH between 6 to 6,8, Conductivity 10 to 30 µS.cm-1 , Transparency 21 to 59 cm and Total Alkalinity 14 to 22 mg CaCO3 / L. Surface temperature were between 24,4 and 37° C and Dissolved Oxygen 1,3 and 7,4 mg / L. Bacteriological analysis report 350 to 3600 CFU / mL for mesophilic aerobic bacteria and 3 to 43 NMP / 100 mL for total Coliforms. A total of 47 species of Freshwater Macrophytes were recorded and mayor diversity was associated with inundation of the forest period (octubre − noviembre). A total of 52 phytoplankton species were found, Chlorophyta Division was the dominant and Actinastrum hantzschi, Spirogyra sp., Eudorina elegans, Pandorina morum y Closterium kuetzingui were the principal species. In zooplankton community was recorded 54...
