En la evaluación del riesgo ambiental (ERA) de los ambientes acuáticos contaminados por relaves mineros en el Perú se requiere del empleo de organismos biológicos estandarizados como la larva del insecto Chironomus calligraphus Goeldi. Los organismos biológicos para ser usados como herramientas ecotoxicológicas requieren ser sencillos, prácticos, sensibles y repetibles.
