The aim of this study was to determine the causes and identify the risk factors associated with pre-weaning mortality in four dual-purpose bovine herds in Colima, Mexico. Four herds were selected and births and deaths were recorded for 12 months. Information was collected on the calving number of the dam and the sex of the calf. Necropsy was performed in cases of death. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test and logistic regression. The pre-weaning mortality rate was 4.30%, with half of the deaths occurring within the first 48 hours after birth, especially due to dystocia (50%) and congenital abnormalities (25%). A significant association was found between herd mortality and the number of calving of the cow (p<0.05), but not with the sex of the calf. El objetivo del presente estudio fue determinar la prevalencia y describir las lesiones pulmonares de bovinos y porcinos sacrificados en la Procesadora Municipal de Carne de Colima, México, así como establecer su asociación con la procedencia, sexo y edad del animal. Se recolectaron muestras de pulmones de porcinos y bovinos con lesiones mediante visitas semanales durante cuatro meses, recabándose datos sobre su distribución, consistencia y tipo de exudado. Las muestras fueron fijadas en formalina bufferada al 10% para su proceso histológico con técnicas de rutina. De 873 y 2657 bovinos y porcinos sacrificados, 102 (11.7%) y 400 (15.1%) pulmones presentaron lesiones. The objective of this study was to determine the main pathologies diagnosed during the period between 2019 and 2021 in sheep raised in the state of Colima, Mexico. Eigthy necropsies were performed and it was observed that the system with the most findings was the digestive 33/80 (41.3%), followed by the respiratory 24/80 (30.0%), the lymphatic 8/80 (10%), the skin 7 /80 (8.8%), the musculoskeletal 4/80 (5.0%), the central nervous 3/80 (3.8%) and finally the endocrine system 1/80 (1.3%). The results of necropsies and histopathology were grouped into the following categories: non-parasitic infectious 36/80 (45.0%), parasitic infectious 27/80 (33.8%), toxic 7/80 (8.8%), physical 6/80 (7.5%) and nutritional-metabolic 4/80 (5.0%).
