Objective: To determine the degree of excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep quality in medical students. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Setting: Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Participants: Medical students. Interventions: No probabilistic sample of the sixth (76 externs) and seventh (74 interns) year medical students. Questionnaires: demographic data, Epworth sleepiness scale and Pittsburgh sleep quality index. Main outcome measures: Daytime sleepiness and sleep quality. Results: There was no difference in scores obtained between both populations. Of the participants, 58% had poor sleep quality and 34% had excessive daytime sleepiness. To have a subjective sleep latency more than 30 minutes, to sleep 6 hours or less, sleep efficiency less than 85% and to use hypnotic medication were related with poor sleep quality. Objective: To determine physicians’ knowledge level on obstructive sleep apnea and to compare it with a report published in 2001. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Five congresses developed during 2006. Participants: Congress assitants. Interventions: Questionnaire with 18 questions about knowledge of the syndrome. This questionnaire was self administered, unique and anonymous. Main outcome measures: Knowledge of the syndrome, its diagnosis and treatment. Results: Two hundred and forty-one questionnaires were successfully obtained. The age of the participants was 36,1±11,7 [20 to 76] years.   Objetivo:Describir la calidad de sueño en los pobladores andinos de Huaripampa-Ancash (3 200msnm). Material y métodos: Se utilizó el Índice de Calidad de Sueño de Pittsburgh (ICSP). Se calculó el tamaño de la muestra (n=92) mediante el método de proporciones, y se realizó una aleatorización sistemática de casas, encuestando a los pobladores presentes que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. Resultados:Se encuestaron a 83 pobladores, 46% fueron hombres, la edad media fue de 40,59 ±17,5 (18-65 años) y la mediana del puntaje del PSQI fue de 6 ±4,5 (RIC) [2-18].
