The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between depression and quality of life in patients with chronic diseases of a Level I Hospital in East Lima. The present study is design, not Experimental, cross-sectional and correlational type. The instruments used for the measurement were: the Health Status Questionnaire SF36, which contains eight dimensions, and the Hamilton Depression Scale. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la relación entre depresión y calidad de vida de pacientes con enfermedades crónicas de un hospital de nivel I de Lima Este. Los instrumentos utilizados para la medición fueron el cuestionario de estado de salud SF36, diseñado por el Health Institute New England Medical center de Boston en Massachusett, en el año 1992 y la escala Hamilton para depresión cuyo autor original fue Hamilton, quien elaboró la escala en el año 1960.
