Violence and insecurity associated with drug trafficking have generated high levels of crime in Mexico. The latter has led to an increase in crime rates among society and, furthermore, to a large part of the population perceiving insecurity and victimization as two of the country’s main problems. This article proposes an explanatory and psychosocial model to study fear of crime in Mexico. In order to achieve this, the perspectives of victimization, risk perception and vulnerability are addressed. A total of 443 university students participated in the study (49.9% men and 50.1% women) with a mean of 21.32 years (SD = 2.23). The results showed that having been a victim of a crime (victimization) and the perceived risk perception (contextual) further promote concern about the crime. Los estudios de la violencia en Ecuador se han caracterizado por su teorización y medición mediante frecuencias delictivas sin tomar en cuenta su carácter subjetivo. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo conocer la representación social que los jóvenes ecuatorianos tienen de la violencia. Se aplicó un cuestionario abierto para conocer sus contenidos y significados. Una muestra de 298 jóvenes universitarios de la ciudad de Ambato, con una media de edad de 21.28 años (DT = 1.61), participaron en esta investigación. Los resultados muestran que los jóvenes perciben un clima de inseguridad, caracterizados por delitos comunes (asaltos y robos) y fallas en la estructura del sistema gubernamental (policial). Así, se ha establecido un clima colectivo caracterizado por la inseguridad y la incertidumbre.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo conhecer a representação social que os jovens equatorianos têm da violência. Aplicou-se um questionário aberto para conhecer seus conteúdos e significados. However, research has focused on comprehend the causes society attributes to both phenomena increasing and a little has been explored about the relationship those variables can have with concepts like social well-being. This study aims to know about the effect social well-being (and his dimensions), emotions (positive and negative) and negative perception of the world have on the fear of crime. Dating violence is a social problem that mostly affects adolescent and young women, who experience different types of violence from their partner at all levels, and on many occasions neither aggressors nor victims recognize that what they are experiencing is violence, as they just consider it a usual way of relating to each other. A comparative correlational study was designed to compare the types of dating violence experienced by women who currently have a partner and by those who do not have one, and to relate the types of dating violence.
