The aim of this study was to determine the level of contamination of public plazas in the city of Temuco with parasitic forms through dog faeces. A total of 102 faecal samples were collected in eight plazas of the city centre. Samples were processed by the sedimentation-flotation method (Teuscher method). The 89.2% of the samples resulted positive for a parasitic form, where strongyle-type eggs (69.6%) within the Phylum Nematoda and the oocysts of Isospora within the Phylum Protozoa (6.8%) were the most frequent. Half of the samples were poliparasitic where the triparasitism reached 21.5% of all samples. The findings indicate a polluted environment and poor waste management in the city center.

The formation of nanoparticles of chitosan by the ionic gelation method has a high potential for loading, transport and controlled release of molecules. It is a simple method and the nanoparticles have good absorption, stability, biocompatibility and low toxicity. Florfenicol is one of the most used antibiotics in the aquaculture industry and is administered mixed with the feed in high concentrations, which generates problems of effective doses and unwanted residues. In this way, the synthesis of chitosan (Q) nanoparticles loaded with florfenicol could provide advantages when it comes to protecting, transporting and releasing the drug in fish of economic interest in a controlled manner. In the present study, nanoparticles of chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) with and without florfenicol were synthesized to evaluate their effective loading and release. The results obtained with F...

Salmon farming is one of the pillars of the Chilean economy but due the emerging of many diseases, including the ecto-parasitism caused by Caligus rogercresseyi, the salmon industry has decreased their production indices. Based on that, alternative rearing systems are being evaluated for salmon cultivation, one of them fish farming in deep water, where the temperature is lower than the temperature of the surface, as C. rogercresseyi is a parasite whose life cycle is water temperature dependent. This paper describes the biological behaviour of the parasite and the effect of deep water and culture temperature on the establishment of the parasite in the host.

Mucus is one of the most important components of fish immunity, it contains components of innate immunity such as glycoproteins, lysozyme, complement proteins, proteolytic enzymes, antimicrobial peptides and immunoglobulins. Current information concerning the generation, physiology and effects of mucus in Atlantic salmon is reviewed, as well as possible mucogenic additives for the control of parasites that may be attractive for future use in the reduction of Caligus rogercresseyi. A full-text multidisciplinary data search was carried out. The topics included in the research process correspond to salmon, mucus, and mucogenic additives. It was found that the additive that generates a greater increase of the mucus components is the probiotic Bacillus sp. The findings suggest that more research is needed to unravel the implications of skin mucosal immunity on fish welfare and diseases of bio...
