The aim of this study was to determine the genetic variability of populations of domestic cats (Felis catus) using genes that encode color, design and length of pelage in Magangué, Bolivar, Colombia. A total of 297 cats were phenotyped by direct observations made on tours through urban areas in Magangué, providing the phenotypic markers: Orange, Agouti, Tabby, Dilution, Long hair, Spotting white y Dominant white. Population genetic parameters were calculated: allele frequencies, genetic diversity, gene flow, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and genetic distance and phylogenetic relationships among cat populations were inferred. The non-agouti marker was the most frequent, while Tabby blotched and Dominant white gene had the lowest values. Most of the genetic diversity was found within populations and low among populations as well as high gene flow. An excess of heterozygotes was observed at ...

The aim of this research was to determine the genetic variability of domestic pigeon populations (Columba livia), using genes that encode plumage color in Sincelejo, Sucre (Colombia). The populations, distributed in twenty-four colonies, were studied between July 2016 and January 2017, and included 1402 individuals. The markers were: Plumage pattern, Primary coloration, Spread and Grizzle. The genetic parameters allele frequencies, genetic diversity and population structure were calculated through the program PopGene 1.31, genetic distance was determined by the program FSTAT v. 2.9.3.2, and the dendrogram was carried out using the program Mega 7. The allelic frequencies obtained varied from 0.2290 for the allele Checker (C), 0.1458 for the marker T-Pattern (CT), 0.1317 for the gene Grizzle (G), 0.0882 for the marker Ash-Red (BA) and 0.0282 for the allele Spread (S). The coefficient of ge...

The study was conducted to analyze the genetic diversity of the population of cats (Felis catus) of the Colombian city of Mompox, Bolívar. The following genes were studied: Orange, Agouti, Tabby, Dilution, Long Hair, Spotting White Dominant White, Manx and Siames for 200 cats in five neighborhoods of the city. Mompox presented allelic frequencies that ranged between 0.678 and 0.003 for the Non-agouti and Manx markers, respectively. The Spotting White and Long Hair markers showed the greatest diversity; the Orange marker presented disequilibrium in two populations: Seis de Agosto and Faciolince, while Spotting White maintained a Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. A high genetic differentiation was found between the populations (GST = 0.1283). In Mompox an association of the populations was presented attending the date of their foundations. In the Colombian Caribbean, the populations were groupe...

The aim of this study was to estimate the genetic variability of domestic Creole horses (Equus caballus) through genes associated with the coat. Samples were taken through rural excursions between November 2016 and November 2017 in seven populations in Sahagun, Cordoba. Adult horses present in the farms of each population were sampled, where each animal was phenotypically characterized according to the autosomal markers of morphological coding: Extension, Agouti, Cream, Gray, White, Tobiano, Overo, and Roan. Genetic parameters: allele frequencies, genetic diversity and genetic distance were calculated through the program PopGene 1.31; population structure was determined by the program FSTAT v.2.9.3.2. and the dendrogram was done using the program Mega 7. The results indicated no presence for the White and Overo markers while Extension marker was the most representative in frequency possi...
