Objective: To compare – in vivo- the topical application of hyaluronic acid and honey in the healing and development of bacteria in the mucosa of guinea pigs. Material and methods: In vivo study conducted on a sample of 30 guinea pigs, divided into three groups, all under identical conditions (location, feeding, temperature). For five consecutive days, both in the morning and in the evening, the following treatments were topically applied: hyaluronic acid in Group A, bee honey in Group B, while no substances were applied in Group C (GC). This was carried out using a hypodermic syringe. Prior to sedation, a circular incision of 4 mm was made in the mucosa of guinea pigs in the infero-lateral left region of the incisors. Characteristics such as bleeding, edema, erythema (on days 4, 6, and 8), scar tissue, presence of suppuration (day 8), and bacterial culture (to measure colony-forming u...

Objective: To identify the radiographic findings associated with postsurgical nerve alteration in lower third molar surgery in patients treated in the Faculty of Odontology operating room from 2015 to 2019. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study included a population composed of medical records and panoramic radiographs of patients who underwent lower third molar extraction at the Faculty of Odontology, Universidad Central del Ecuador (FOUCE), from 2015 to 2019. The sample was selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Radiographic predictor signs were observed, and the presence or absence of nerve alteration was assessed from the evolution notes. Data were recorded in an Excel file, and statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25.0. Resection of vestibular exostoses and mandibular tori as a key pre-prosthetic procedure for optimal edentulous rehabilitation. This article reports a case involving the resection of a mandibular torus and vestibular exostoses, emphasizing the use of a 3D-printed surgical guide for enhanced precision. A 49-year-old female patient diagnosed with mandibular tori and vestibular exostoses in the edentulous mandibular region underwent pre-prosthetic surgical treatment. The procedure involved the resection of the mandibular torus and vestibular exostoses, guided by virtual planning. Customized mandibular cutting guides, fabricated using acrylic resin, facilitated precise osteotomy. The use of these patient-specific surgical guides resulted in: reduced surgical time, minimally invasive approach, improved postoperative recovery, preserved mandibular symmetry and fewer surgical complications. At t...
